Champagne Library: Will there be a Grande Année 2015? Champagne Bollinger’s Gilles Descôtes talks about his current work

Champagne Bollinger’s Grande Année is definitely one of the classical and distinctive Pinot Noir orientated cuvées. The powerful and elegant still wines from Aÿ and Verzenay are the backbone of this vintage champagne. This means: Only the best grapes from this house will be in the wine. The cuvée is usually 70 percent Pinot Noir and 30 percent Chardonnay, vinification takes place in 228 liters oak barrels from burgundy.

All this evokes a wine with deep expressions and an unique characteristics, a palette of complex aromas like vanilla, butter and truffles. Bollinger’s Grande Année is like a timeless journey into the indian jungle.

Since two years Gilles Descôtes is the new Chef de Cave at Bollinger. He joined the house in 2003 as an agronomy engineer and was responsible for the vineyards, which means 163 hectares.

In our interview Descôtes talks about some interesting unique features of the harvest 2015 and whether there will be in ten years a Grande Année 2015.
