Very early harvest in Champagne

The harvest in Champagne with up to 120,000 helpers begins on August 17th in the Aube. The Marne Valley follows on August 18th. Curious: the maximum yield to be harvested is not to be announced until August 18th.

 

The grapes have a lot of acidity and a high sugar content. The potential alcohol content is 10.5 percent by volume for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and 10 percent for Meunier. Despite a lot of powdery mildew in the vineyards, the general health of the grapes is characterized as good. A strict selection is still necessary.
