Champagne Gaston Chiquet Spécial Club Brut 2013 Friedrich Nietzsches Theorie der Säure

2013 in Champagne, a late harvest year. And also a year of the most varied qualities in Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. The connoisseur knows: A Chardonnay from 2013 can be  good.

After just a few sips of this Spécial Club Brut 2013, you can tell that the Chardonnay was very good.

Champagne Gaston Chiquet from Dizy, a Récoltant-Manipulant who owns at least 23 hectares, this cuvée comes from the oldest vines in Aÿ, Hautvillers and Dizy. It is composed of 70 percent Chardonnay and 30 percent Pinot Noir for the structure. A harmoniously concentrated but also vibrant champagne with buttery notes.

There is no question that Chardonnay dominates this wine, disgorged in 2019, with its freshness and acidity. It's a challenging acid that makes us wonder: how much do we know about the benefits of a noble acid?

Are we even talking about lust, as Friedrich Nietzsche suggested in the summer of 1875?

"Think of taste," said Nietzsche, "of the different degrees of acidity. We're talking about pleasure: and yet only a quantitative increase would produce pain. Schopenhauer considers pleasure to be negative, pain to be positive in feeling: a witty theory based on the most superficial points of view.”
